Build Your Brain Activity

For this week's experiential task I decided to take a trip home last weekend and get the help of my nine year old cousin Madison. While the cameras were not on Madison was very interested in the building your brain activity although I think the main reason for that was because she got to play with Play-Doh instead of doing her own homework for a little while.
So to begin this project I explained to Madison that I was going to show her some pictures of the brain and she could mold them out of Play-Doh to look fairly similar to the picture. I didn't really help her build them in anyway besides giving her a few pointers here and there and answering a few                                            questions for her along the way.

I was even told that she had remembered some of the facts like the weight of the brain that I had told her because of the comparison I had made to her new dog.

  1. This is so cute!! I absolutely loved reading this blog and watching your video!! The only thing I wish you would have done was include some of your findings in the actual blog! But other than that, I loved this post! Great job!!

  2. It's interesting to get kids perspective because they are still new to the world and learning new things. It is sometimes interesting to hear what they have to say. Your cousin appeared to be a little camera shy, but I am sure that she will work on that as she grows older and it was fun to watch you teach her about different parts of the brain.

  3. Nice post! I did not think a lot of people would do this one but I'm glad you did! Your cousin is very cute, and I totally understand about being shy, I was always that kid. I am glad she learned some new things and had fun doing it though. It is so interesting how fast kids pick up information, especially when you relate it to something important to them, like her new dog!

  4. Sarah,
I enjoyed reading your post on the intricasy of the brain and your experience in this creative activity! Teaching little ones about such a complex idea about the brain is difficult in so many ways but, you explained it to where it not only made sense but she regurgitated the information back to you! Great blog post!

  5. Hey Sarah! I love that you did this experiment with Madison! She is so cute, but she is usually not as shy when I see her. You did a great job at relating the information in a way she would understand. I bet you two had a great time doing this project together, especially since she likes doing science experiments with you!

  6. Hey Sarah! Your blog is great! I wanted to compliment you about how you explained the brain, a complicated subject, to a little kid. It is difficult in so many ways, but you succeeded. You cousin Madison seems like such a sweet girl! She reminds me of my little sister. I think they maybe the same age! I will be looking forward to your future blog posts.
